Get your Weather Radio..Here's how!

On Wednesday, we officially kicked off the Weather Radio Campaign at FOX8.  We have teamed up with Midland Radios and Walgreens to make this possible.

All Walgreens stores in the FOX8 Viewing area carrying these radios and offering them at a discounted price.  The mission here is to get radios in every home.  Think of a Weather Radio as you would a smoke detector.  You know that the smoke detector will give you the time to wake up and get out in the event you have a fire.  If you have a severe storm or tornado, you need to know it is coming too.  But, if you are in a deep sleep, you may never know until it is too late.  We appreciate everyone that watches us for severe weather crawls.  However, the tv isn't going to turn on and wake you up.   The weather radio will.

The great thing about this radio, it has S.A.M.E. technology.  That stands for Specific Area Message Encoding.  This means you can program the radio to alert only for the counties you select.  For example, the traditional radios of the past did not give you this option and if a warning was issued for a county 80-90 miles away, it would wake you up.  Many folks just started turning the radios off because they could not get a good nights sleep.  Now you can select just your county or the ones nearby that interest you.   This radio will also alert you to other hazards in the area.

If you purchase a radio and wish to program your counties, here is a link to the County Codes.

These radios also alert you to warnings for civil emergencies, terrorist attacks, problems at nuclear plants, industrial fires, chemical spills, biological hazards and Amber alerts.

Best of all, the price.  $29.99     That is it.  Typically you would pay around $40.00 for a radio with these options.   Thanks again to Walgreens for helping us to make this available to you.

  • Got a call from a Walgreen's in Greensboro on Thursday that they are stocking the shelves with radios. They also got a bigger supply this time. All Walgreen's in the viewing area should be supplied now or very soon. Every home needs a weather radio.

  • I just got word that a new supply of the weather radios has been shipped.  100 to each Walgreen's store in the FOX8 Viewing area.  They should arrive on Thursday, April 2 and Friday, April 3.  I do not know how long it takes for them to then be put on the shelves.
